Nest is proud to introduce its new line of modern, environmentally friendly, children’s furnishings. We make products for eco-conscious parents who want children’s products that are well-designed and responsibly-made. The design of all Nest products emphasizes functionality and modern aesthetics with a kid-friendly twist. The production of all Nest products emphasizes social and environmental responsibility; in short, sustainability.

 

why modern design?
The selection of well-made, well-designed modern products for kids is slim at best. New, modern-minded parents too often find their homes overrun by a collection of frilly or rustic or corporate-licensed products that will eventually linger in a landfill. In the spirit of modernism, the Nest line is elegant in its simplicity. The designs are direct with subtle hints of whimsy yet always derived from their function. We think modern design just makes so much sense for kids’ furniture. We have strived for clean lines and pure forms in our designs. No ornamentation can possibly match the power of a child’s imagination.

 

why sustainability?
Simple—for the health of your child and the planet. We realize that it is now not enough to simply make good stuff and make it well. We believe that a product is not really well designed unless its environmental impact has been considered. No kids’ product is appropriate if it contributes to the degradation of the planet our children will inherit. By using, selling, and buying sustainable materials, and by carefully selecting responsible, caring manufacturers, we believe that we are promoting the economic, environmental, and social health of our community and communities around the world. Sustainable materials will not deplete the resources of any community and fair labor practices will not exploit labor in any community. Organic cotton, curved plywood, water-borne finishes, and recycled materials are all highly sustainable alternatives that Nest uses to produce their products.

 

who we are.
In creating this line, we draw from our combined complementary skills in product design (Will) and extensive experience in launching start-up companies (Laura.) Will has designed award-winning children’s products for other companies and has used that experience to create this growing new line. We have also been married for over twelve years and are raising two great kids of our own. Out of respect and concern for the children we hope will use our products, we vowed that all of the items in our product line would be made with the planet’s future in mind. Nest is part of our ongoing effort to create fun and functional alternatives for our kids and yours. We look forward to your input.
